The New Girl In Town

Penelope is gone, George strutted and showed his feathers, hoping she would come back, but no luck.

We brought another peahen home for George. Gertrude, a young peahen who stayed in the crate we brought her home in, until I tipped it so she would realize the door was gone.

She calmly walked around the yard, ignoring George who was keeping his distance. She wandered into the Christmas trees, and hid for several hours, then came down to the feeding area and munched away.

George displayed his amazing tail, shook the under feathers (they make a sound like a rattle snake) and strutted, preened and waved his wings trying to impress Gertrude. It must have worked, she stayed.

Today, Gertrude is being very vocal - Eeee, Awwww, E, Aww. I answer her, in my fair human imitation peahen noise. I'm getting better!

So, we now have 2 peafowl again, George is very happy, and Gertrude is getting used to her new digs. We'll have to wait until next year for eggs, and hope we can get Gertty to build her nest under the covered "big" bird house.

Good Luck George and Gertrude!
